Oh, those colours!
Momentous is a large rectangular painting featuring a series of beautiful, rich colours. These include, metallic purple, magenta, gold, white, black and chrome (more on that later).
The main part of the painting sees a stunning metallic purple colour fused alongside a vivid pink. These are a great duo and have featured many times in my work over the years. It’s this purple and pink combination that attracts the other complimentary colours around it. They’re perfect partners for white and gold as well as black and red.
Where calm meets energy
When these are all put together into one painting the result is sublime. On one hand you eat calmness and serenity whilst on the other you have energy and power. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to see these two extremes in what is essentially, a relaxing colour palette.
So much of the power of this piece comes from the application methods I have used and the movements I have created form them. For instance, there is a black loop that adds some gravity on one side whilst the other features an explosion of white in the form of vapour trails.
Movement can be captured by the way in which paint is applied; it is also expressed in the volumes of paint on their respective placement. So getting the right quantities of colour in the right places can further enhance the feeling that the painting is in motion.
The new chrome paint
Now, I did day I would mention chrome right? Well, in this painting I have used a brand new liquid chrome paint for the very first time. It’s eye-wateringly expensive so I have only used it in small droplets.
However, it dries like a mirror so what we actually have here is a series of tiny mirrors that you can see your reflection in! It’s impossible to capture with a camera but in real life, it’s very cool.
So, Momentus is a serene yet dramatic abstract with a gorgeous set of colours that will feel at home behind a sofa or in a stairwell. It’s a decent size so will fill that blank wall you have very nicely. Drop me a line today and let me bring it out for you to see for real.
