In The Beginning is a very big original artwork created with a series of colors from all parts of the spectrum. It’s bold, energetic and vibrant. The technique uses centrifugal force to spread paint out into the explosive pattern you can see here.
Preparation
Paintings as large as this one take time to prepare. Equipment, canvas and paint are the most obvious ones. But then there is the application sequence to consider. Due to the size of this piece (originally borne from a 3m x 3m piece of canvas) the knowledge of what happens when paint is forced to ravel according to the laws of physics is critical.
Knowing where to place paint, in what quantities and in what volumes are just some of the decisions that need to be made if you’re going to attempt to cover such a large surface area.
Additionally, one must also consider the number of rotational spins the canvas will need to do and at what speeds. There is a very fine line between success and failure with this type of art. Early spins may very well put down pant well but each subsequent spin after that also affects what goes on beforehand.
In the end…
The result can be a brown, gloopy mess very easily as different color paints continually mix with each other the more you put on. So having that level of knowledge of paint and how it works is fundamental to the success of a painting like this one.
When it all goes well you get a vibrant, explosive artwork that is as energetic and emotive as it gets (for an abstracted piece). The depth of color is extraordinary. The detailing is surprisingly complex and the blending between all of these components is sublime. Think of it as the cosmos meets Madi Gras!
If you’re into color, like rainbows and have a big wall to fill then I guarantee that this will not disappoint.
