Chromatique is a large abstract painting made from a series of interlocking and overlapping loops and curves. The primary colour focus is lime green and yellow gold. I have also included a rich, metallic copper, olive green and a touch of black and white.
There’s no denying my love of cirlces and curves. I like the way they move, how they behave with other circles and arcs and how they can be arrnaged to form works of art. This fascination over 15 years brings us to this painting; the latest incarnation of the technique.
Building the layers
It all begins with the basic structure which is normally applied with a window squeegee. In this painting I have chosen a dark forest green, copper and yellow gold as the underpinning layer onto which everything else is applied. Gentle placement of white sees these tones changing and morphing into lighter and more subtle varations whilst keeping the movements flowing.
The artwork is topped off with some thin black arcs that help define the structures beneath. It’s packed full of beautiful details and oh my days, that gold (which has a metallic flake by the way) is absolutely spellbinding!
Chromatique is a calm, gentle asbtract art work that carries all the joy of my craft without having to shout about it. Any large living space or dining room is going to look so much more complete with this hanging in it.
One more thing
I am not ususally a fan of using olive green but I have to say, since ordering a few variatons for a client’s commission, I have found that it’s actually very versatile and a real joy to look at.
This is now the fourth time I’ve used it on canvas and it’s turning out to be a bit of godsend. There will be more coming soon!
