About the artwork
Caribbean Sunset is a large sized abstract painting made up of three canvases (also referred to as a triptych). I created this painting as a single canvas and then decided to offer it as a series of three individuals.
It’s not often I do this but it just felt right on this occasion. In fact I think I’ve only ever done it once before in the whole time I’ve been painting. It started out as a single piece of canvas over 3 meters long and its entire creation can be seen in the video below.
Make it personal
Before I talk more about how this was created let me just say that the photos on this page show the three canvases in just one orientation/combination. As you may have already deduced, you could swap and change the hanging order in any way you want or indeed turn them through 180º and do the same again.
I think this level of personalization is very neat and allows you to choose the combinations that please you the most. It also helps to give your space refresh if you fancy altering them after a while.
Painting by numbers
You may or may not already know that I have a YouTube channel where i stream a weekly broadcast. This involves me painting live and unscripted in front of a live audience. Sometimes I get everyone to participate in the decision making and for this artwork I pretty much let the viewers take control.
It’s an occasional format I call Painting By Numbers and involves me drawing a series of shapes on the flat canvas and then numbering them. I ask for suggestions for each number and then apply paint accordingly. It’s fast-paced and a lot of fun! However, it’s pretty full-on and stressful for m as i still need to create a credible painting at the end of it.
Fortunately, after well over a decade of practice, I know what I’m doing and the result is incredible!
