Caribbean Sunset is a large sized abstract painting. It’s not often I do this but it just felt right on this occasion. In fact I think I’ve only ever done it once before in the whole time I’ve been painting. It’s a single piece of canvas over 3 meters long and its entire creation can be seen in the video below.
You may or may not already know that I have a YouTube channel where I stream a weekly broadcast. This involves me painting live and unscripted in front of a live audience. Sometimes I get everyone to participate in the decision making and for this artwork I pretty much let the viewers take control.
It’s an occasional format I call Painting By Numbers and involves me drawing a series of shapes on the flat canvas and then numbering them. I ask for suggestions for each number and then apply paint accordingly. It’s fast-paced and a lot of fun! However, it’s pretty full-on and stressful for m as I still need to create a credible painting at the end of it.
Fortunately, after well over a decade of practice, I know what I’m doing and the result is incredible!
After all this effort and concentration what has actually formed is a painting of immense depth, stunning detail and effortless fluidity. The wealth of tonal changes is mesmerizing and will have you entertained and engaged for years. The colours are gorgeous and the blending of them has created some unusual effects.
Using what is essentially a rainbow palette I have managed to create a series of paintings that never feels like the front of a kids lunchbox but instead feels sophisticated and considered. Mixing every colour from the spectrum can lead to a kitsch and wholly predictable outcome – not on my watch though!
If you have a big space and need an injection of colour then drop me a line below and we’ll come out and see you with all three pieces. Honestly, you’ll be astonished when you see it in the flesh.
Drop me a line and I will get back to you as soon as is humanly possible!
