Skybound is a large, rectangular abstract painting featuring an explosive series of colours coming out from the centre of the canvas. It’s a very colourful thing and has wonderful movement and energy.
In the beginning…
For me it’s hard to not think anout the cosmic big bang when I look at this. I imagine an almighty explosive force and then out comes the early cosmos. It’s almost impossible to imagine what that woudl be like but I’d hope that it would be something majestic enough that words could never do it justice.
These are the thoughts and feelings that make up these comsic explosion paintings and the spin table is the perfect tool to help me realise those ideas.
The colour choices
That was easy really – I chose all of them! Actually, that’s not entirely true but it’s fair to say that most of the colour groups have a representation in here.
However, choosing colours is only part of the story. Knowing where to put them and in what quanityt and when is largely down to how the painting evolves as it’s spinning round on the table. There’s no magic formula to this; it’s simply a question of balance and gut feeling.
Sometimes the volumes of paint don’t travel where you want them to go so the next colour choice must account for that. Then there’s the ussue that the more you spin, the more the colours blend. So keeping the primaries separated is always a constant worry.
Energy
When it goes as planned you get Skynound. It literlly fizzes with energy. If you have a blarge wall soemwhere that’s crying out for a bold splash of colour then this could just be the ticket. Games room perhaps? Maybe a newly renovated dining room needs a conversation piece…
